St. Irénée, painted during the height of A.Y.'s career, depicts the classic scene of a snowy village with horse and sleigh bathed in the bright winter sun. If you look closely you will notice the charming added feature of laundry billowing in the breeze on the porch of the coral coloured house. St. Irénée is located in the Charlevoix region of Quebec where A.Y. painted some of his most endearing and signature works.
In 2018 the Toronto auction house Cowley Abbott sold a St. Irénée oil sketch of similar subject for $95,000.
We are delighted to offer this fine work for a very reasonable price.
