In 1974, Alex Colville produced twelve small paintings depicting work typical of each month of the year. Five years later, in 1979, Colville produced a series of prints of these paintings in a portfolio that included an artist’s statement and the 1978 serigraph Hotel Maid.

An edition of Book of Hours – Labours of the Months is included in the collection of the National Gallery of Canada.
