Perehudoff’s paintings from the early 1980s represent a mature and confident period in his career, marked by bold colour and refined compositional balance. A key figure in Canadian abstraction, Perehudoff was deeply influenced by the Emma Lake workshops, where he worked alongside prominent international artists such as Clement Greenberg and Jack Bush. Perehudoff’s work gained national recognition through major exhibitions, including retrospectives at the Mendel Art Gallery and the Art Gallery of Alberta. In 1999, he was named a Member of the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours, recognizing his significant contribution to modern art. The paintings from the 1980s remain both visually compelling and highly collectible, affirming Perehudoff’s lasting legacy in the Canadian art canon.
