Woman, Dog and Canoe is among Alex Colville’s most renowned serigraphs, produced in an edition of 70 in 1982. Colville began working in serigraphy in the 1950s and created thirty-five series throughout his career, each conceived as an original work independent of his paintings.

The 1985 catalogue of Colville’s prints featured Woman, Dog and Canoe on its cover. Colville frequently depicted his wife, Rhoda, as a model, while the family’s pets appeared throughout his oeuvre. Here, the female figure poles across a tranquil lake with quiet purpose, accompanied by her attentive Labrador Retriever.
