Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun’s landscapes blend Indigenous iconography with Surrealism to address pressing environmental concerns. His bold, stylized depictions of forests, mountains, and waterways—painted in vivid, unnatural colors—serve as powerful critiques of deforestation, pollution, and land exploitation. Works such as Untitled, c.2008, expose the destruction of Indigenous territories, transforming traditional Northwest Coast formline design into a vehicle for political protest. Through these landscapes, Yuxweluptun challenges colonial land policies and asserts Indigenous sovereignty, making the natural world a central battleground in the fight for environmental justice.
